David Russell-Wiks Race Car

The car was purchased in 2007 as a shell and several boxes of parts with the intention of building an MGB for the Equipe GTS and other Historic race series. I was building the car with a friend; we made good progress at the start, but the project began to stall and at one point we were considering selling the car. In June 2009, after I sold my road MGB, it was decided I would buy my colleague's half and complete the build.
Originally, I painted the MGB bodyshell at home to save money, but I was never all that happy with the finish or the quality of the paint. The underside had previously been stone-chipped and sealed all adding extra unnecessary weight. I decided to take the plunge and have the bodyshell acid dipped and E-coated.
In October 2009 I took the car to Lone Pine Garage where I completed the build with their guidance and help. Working there allowed me to complete more ambitious modifications. For example, we created and installed aluminium door skins and an aluminium rear valance. I worked on the car nearly every day. By July 2010, the body work and rolling chassis were complete.
The first race was Brands Hatch April 2011, I was dead last by 3 laps! The next time out was Donington; I had a far better result finishing P11 out of 39 cars. I still race regularly with the Equipe Classic Racing Series and I have a YouTube channel covering both the racing and car preparation.
