Aston Martin ‘Replica’ VPL 349M

This car was built by Trevor Broadbent from a design by William Towns using a GT donor car. Aston Martin engineer Keith Martin produced the original concept at Newport Pagnell for a press launch in June 1980. This was intended to be the start of a new era for MG under Aston Martin ownership. Sadly, the deal fell through, and this car equipped with the ‘next generation’ o-series engine and the original (B-series) now in Germany are all that remains of what could have been.
The Town’s design incorporating a higher GT windscreen, hybrid rubber/chrome front and the additional side mouldings might not be to everyone’s taste, but with the refined, powerful yet economic drive provided by the 2 litre o-series you can certainly see what might have been.
